Ascend AI AppBase

A Lakebase-first pattern for governed operational apps on Databricks.

AppBase productizes Databricks Apps and Lakebase best practices into a growing library of governed starter kits on a shared Lakebase-first foundation, starting with customer intelligence, agent operations, real-time risk and compliance, and industrial operations.

Operational Apps Need a
Serving and State Layer.

An operational app needs four things the analytics estate does not hand it for free: transactional state, low-latency serving of lakehouse data, an app identity, and a way to promote it across environments. Without Lakebase and Databricks Apps resources, each one becomes custom integration work.

Operational State gets Split
Transactional state ends up in a store outside Unity Catalog, often a separate Postgres next to the lakehouse, with a sync to keep it current. Two governance models, one of them unmanaged.
Environment Bindings Drift
App code carries workspace IDs, connection strings, and tokens. The app works in one workspace and breaks in the next. Moving it from dev to staging to a customer environment is a rewrite, not a deploy.
Every App Restarts from Boilerplate
Each operational app reinvents the schema, the grants, the demo data, and the validation. There is no repeatable pattern for a governed Databricks app on Lakebase, so delivery quality depends on who picks it up.

AppBase Makes the Databricks-Native Path Repeatable.

Databricks ships the primitives: Databricks Apps for the host, Lakebase Autoscaling for transactional state and low-latency serving, Synced Tables to move governed gold data into Lakebase, Unity Catalog for governance, and Declarative Automation Bundles for delivery. AppBase productizes the best practices around them into repeatable, governed operational-app delivery. Dev Hub and AppKit help a developer start an app; AppBase makes the Lakebase-first delivery repeatable for partner engagements.

Lakebase Delivery Pattern
Synced Tables sync Unity Catalog gold into Lakebase for low-latency serving and reverse ETL. Lakebase holds transactional app state next to that read-only serving data. Branch-aware previews and instant restore support review and rollback.
Portable by Contract
Databricks Apps resources bind Lakebase, Genie, SQL warehouses, Model Serving, and secrets. app.yamlvalueFrom resolves those values at runtime, so app code carries no workspace IDs, connection strings, or tokens.
Governed and Inspectable
Each app runs under a dedicated service principal. Unity Catalog stays the governance plane for source data, tags, masks, and lineage. App telemetry (Public Preview) writes logs, metrics, and traces to UC tables where supported, with app-log fallback where it is not.

The Kit Library, on a Shared Foundation

The Data-Intelligent Starter is the shared foundation. Each kit builds on it, adding a domain: schemas, grants, synthetic demo data, and QA. Four kits ship today and the library is growing; most engagements start with the Starter plus one kit.

Foundation
Data-Intelligent Starter
The Lakebase-first baseline every kit builds on.
Databricks App scaffold, Lakebase Autoscaling project, Unity Catalog grant matrix, app resource bindings, valueFrom runtime config, DAB targets, scaffold QA, and Synced Tables wiring from UC gold to Lakebase. No hardcoded workspace IDs.

Kit 01
Customer Intelligence Hub
The governed Customer 360 serving pattern.
Customer profile schemas, consent-aware views, feature-freshness cues, masked-safe fallback, optional Genie resource binding, synthetic Customer 360 demo data, and grant fixtures.
Governed customer context inside an operational workflow. Synced Tables serve gold; Lakebase holds app state.
Synced Tables · Lakebase Autoscaling · Genie (as an Apps resource) · UC tags & masks
Kit 02
AI Agent Operations Center
The Lakebase-backed operator plane for agent workloads.
Agent memory and checkpoint schemas, review queues, tool-call records, operator views, evaluation handoff to MLflow and AI Gateway, grant fixtures, and branch-aware preview patterns.
Agent memory, conversation state, and review state in a governed Databricks app, not a disconnected stack.

Kit 03
Real-Time Risk & Compliance Engine
The Lakebase-backed pattern for alerts, cases, and audit evidence.
Risk-entity schemas, case-state tables, policy retrieval with pgvector, audit-event structure, branch-snapshot patterns, least-privilege grants, and claims-safe synthetic demo data.
Alert queues, case workflows, and review state on Lakebase, with semantic policy retrieval through pgvector.

Kit 04
Intelligent Operations Portal
The Lakebase-backed operations plane for industrial and asset-heavy teams.
Operational-state schemas, asset and work-order tables, alert queues, governed operational scores synced from gold, branch-snapshot patterns, least-privilege grants, and synthetic operations demo data.
Operational state, asset workflows, and alert queues on Lakebase, with governed source data through Synced Tables.
Lakebase Autoscaling · Synced Tables · Apps resources · valueFrom · branch snapshots
A growing library. These four kits ship today; the catalog is built to grow, with new kits dropping onto the same Starter foundation and inheriting its governance and delivery contract.

Built for Regulated, Customer-facing,
& AI-operations Teams

The kits combine by industry. A field team ships a domain pattern instead of starting from a blank canvas every engagement.

Finserv & Insurance
Risk + Customer
Risk & Compliance Engine plus Customer Intelligence Hub. Case state, watchlist review, policy retrieval, and governed customer context on Lakebase under UC grants.
Retail / CPG
Customer 360
Customer Intelligence Hub. Synthetic Customer 360 served from gold through Synced Tables, with transactional app state for operational workflows.
Healthcare & Life Science
Consent Aware
Customer Intelligence plus Risk & Compliance patterns. Consent-aware views, masked-safe fallback, and audit evidence inside governed apps.
Cross-industry AI
Agent AI
AI Agent Operations Center. Durable agent memory, review queues, and quality evidence for teams running agent fleets on Databricks.

What You Can Inspect Today

AppBase ships with synthetic demo data and branch-local validation evidence. Named-customer proof is held until sponsor approval is recorded. The patterns below are what a field team can replay now.

Customer Intelligence
Synthetic Customer 360
A working Customer Intelligence Hub on synthetic data: gold customer tables synced into Lakebase, transactional app state, feature-freshness cues, and optional Genie binding. Replayable in a Databricks workspace.
Agent Ops
Agent State You Can Read
An Agent Operations Center showing agent memory, checkpoints, and review state in Lakebase, with the evaluation handoff to MLflow and AI Gateway visible in the app.
Delivery
Branch-aware Review
A branch preview of an AppBase app: a Lakebase branch, an app preview against it, and instant restore for rollback. The delivery pattern, not a one-off demo.
Demo data is synthetic. Named-customer references and any quantified outcome are available under NDA once sponsor approval is recorded.
